Episode 5 – Sheila Madrak

05_sheila-madrak

Sheila Madrak (@shishfish), a marine ecologist pursuing her PhD in Conservation Ecology from the Joint Doctoral Program in Ecology at San Diego State University and UC Davis, was nice enough to drive up from San Diego with her pet turtle Petunia and talk about marine life, ecosystems, how to keep them safe, and the role of humans in all of it. We also enjoyed some Ruination Ale from Stone Brewing in San Diego. All of which was thoroughly enjoyable. A call to Kim Bowman, who has been incredibly helpful with the podcast so far, kicks it off as we chat about her genealogy. Get nice and cozy and join in.

Episode 3 – Andy Beckerman pt. 1

After a quick chat with @donny_gates via twitter, I sit down and chat with the host of the Beginnings Podcast, Andy Beckerman, about physics, science fairs, aspirations, life, and various other things. I met Andy when I was a guest on his podcast, and he's both smart and funny. He has a Master's degree in Philosophy from Temple University, and he also studied physics, so we had a lot to talk about. He doesn't drink beer, but he was nice enough to sample a bit of the Saranac Blueberry Blonde Ale, which was surprisingly good.

A Nice Introduction from the A.V. Club

The A.V. Club's Podmass included the Space Cave in their weekly rundown of podcasts. It was very nice of them, and thanks to @nowah for the write-up. Hopefully you are enjoying them so far. The next one will go up Monday, and that will be the regular day of the week for new episodes. Talk to you then.

Episode 2 – Matthew Wielicki pt. 2

After a quick chat with the Waco Kid (@tepid_mess), I continue my conversation with Matthew about Planetary Exploration. We get into the specifics of finding life on other planets, whether it would be wise to disrupt them or attempt to communicate, and we devise plans to get ourselves to other worlds. We also enjoy more Ommegang Three-Eyed Raven.

Episode 1 – Matthew Wielicki Pt. 1

In the inaugural episode, I head into the cave and chat briefly with James Curle, who was the first to tweet in his phone number. Then I sit down with Matthew Wielicki, who has a PhD from UCLA in geochemistry, and chat about something I have been interested in for a long time -- Planetary Exploration. We share some Ommegang Three-Eyed Raven (which is a tasty Saison) and chat about how to go to other planets, why we would go, and what we would do when we get there. Grab a cool beer, and join in.
